THAT Corporation Releases New Programmable Preamplifiers
Earlier in June, THAT Corporation announced the availability of the 626x Programmable Preamplifiers. The 6261, 6263, and 6266 Programmable Preamplifiers are available in a 7mm X 7mm 48-pin quad flat no-leads (QFN) package. They are digitally controlled, 2-channel preamplifiers with integrated analog to digital converter (ADC) drivers. The gain, or amplification factor, for these preamplifiers is programmable from -8 dB to +34 dB. They are low-powered at 60 mW and can be powered from unipolar (+10V and +5V) or bipolar (±5V) power supplies.
The 626x series has three products, each identifiable by step size. The 6261 has a 1 dB step, the 6263 has a 3 dB step, and the 6266 has a 6 dB step. All three preamps offer outstanding noise performance, with the 6261’s Equivalent Input Noise (EIN) at -127 dBu and the 6263 and 6266 at -126 dBu, at maximum gain. The dynamic range for all three at minimum gain is up to 118.7 dB.
In order to minimize the audibility of gain changes with signal, the 626x series can be programmed to synchronize gain changes with signal zero crossings. And, in order to enable seamless external gain changes, a BUSY pin for each channel allows external events to be synchronized with zero crossings. Each of the channels may also be set to a low-powered standby mode and muted by about 62 dB.
A 4-wire SPI interface running at up to 7.5 MHz (+3.3V supply) controls the preamps. They can also be daisy-chained to multiple devices using one chip select. There are also four general purpose logic outputs, or GPOs, available to control external circuitry. The GPOs can also be synchronized with zero-crossings.
The 626x Programmable Preamplifiers can be used for a variety of applications, from digitally controlled input stages to audio mixing consoles to PC audio interfaces.
