Boom, Supersonic Aircraft Company to Pick Engines in 2018
Boom, a supersonic aircraft company, announced their plans to pick an engine that will power their developmental airliner programme. Boom has a mission to break the barriers of modern day aircraft travel. Using supersonic speed, Boom will decrease the amount of time an individual spends in an aircraft, making aircraft travel less of a hassle. This will also allow individuals to spend more time in the place they want to be, allow people to explore new places in a time crunch, and less time away from things that are important.
Although the company is new, and just beginning to take off, they have big plans. The main concern the company has currently is perfecting their plane to make supersonic travel a reality. They have yet to decide if they will have a derivative commercial engine, or a clean-sheet powerplant. Boom intends to create its own engine, rather than using a military engine because it will require a lot more controls and over all complexity than what is already on the market. The plans for the supersonic aircraft indicate that the engine will be using three non-afterburning, medium bypass turbofan engines. The boom factory that will be producing these engines will be sized for assembly of up to 100 parts per year.
The cost of the tickets for round trip travel is estimated to be $5,000 per a person. This will be confirmed once the operating fuels can be confirmed, as that will either raise or lower the cost. The company has already gotten 76 orders for the supersonic aircrafts. The company also plans to put private jets into production. The interior of the aircraft is deigned to an experience that is nothing short of luxurious. Each seat will have a large personal window, and first class like seating.
