Aircraft Fuel Pump Parts
One of the most important aspects in an aircraft pump system, the fuel pump mechanisms and their maintained health are critical to the safety and performance of an aircraft. To expand on this and what having the aircraft fuel pump means to the aircraft, it’s essential to understand that the fuel is the only consumable liquid that is carried by the aircraft. As a result, it needs to provide all of the cooling that is necessary for the engine and the airframe to work.
The
aircraft fuel pump of a commercial aircraft needs to operate at altitudes of up to 45,000 feet (2.14 psi/.146 atm), which is the reason for why the
inlet pressure of the aircraft is very low. Temperature in the fuel pump can increase very rapidly due to the vapor pressure of common fuel and when this happens, the pumps runs the risk of cavitation. Cavitation occurs when the local static pressure in the fluid drops below the vapor pressure of the fuel. If cavitation does occur, it can cause serious damage to the impeller, life duration, and the performance penalty. In order to prevent cavitation and have a better suction performance, aircraft fuel pumps use inducers either alone or in conjunction with radial or mixed-flow impeller depending upon the flow and pressure requirements.
There are many different parts to the aircraft fuel pump including the inducer, the inducer with radial impeller and volute, the inducer with radial impeller, the inducer with mixed flow impeller and stator and the
integral impeller. For the basic aircraft fuel pump system, these are the necessary players responsible for the aircraft’s functionability. If you are in need of the entire aircraft fuel pump system or just a few parts of the
fuel system, contact the team now at ASAP Aero Supplies. We can get you last minute parts in a timely manner that fits with your schedule.
